Where History Meets Hospitality

A Neoclassical Gem in the Heart of Athens, Inspired by Myth and Time

Athenaeum Eridanus Hotel is a luxurious 4-star boutique hotel in the heart of Athens, housed in a preserved neoclassical building on Piraeus Avenue, near Technopolis in the vibrant Gazi area. The friendly atmosphere, warm hospitality, and discreet luxury will make you feel right at home, making it an ideal choice for both business and leisure travelers.

With a location just a breath away from the city’s historical, commercial, and cultural center, the hotel is a perfect starting point for exploring the capital. It offers impressive views of the lush green side of the Acropolis from selected rooms and from the rooftop restaurant “Eridanus.”

The hotel is named after the historic Eridanus River, which originated from Lycabettus Hill and flowed through ancient Athens in a southwest direction. The name also connects to ancient Greek mythology, where Eridanus was a river god, son of Oceanus and Tethys.

The original section of the Athenaeum Eridanus Hotel was built in the early 20th century and for many years belonged to the historic Strefis family. The building was renovated in 2003 and began operating as a hotel in June 2004.

The architects who led the 2003 renovation, placed special emphasis on connecting the old with the new, using bold artistic touches. The original ceiling frescoes of the neoclassical building were carefully preserved piece by piece and reinstalled throughout the hotel. The hotel's decorative choices are meticulously curated, blending modern elements with subtle nods to the past. Historical references are also made through the building materials used: Pentelic marble, Greek walnut wood, and traditional “kourasani” plaster (an ancient-style finish and pigment).

Today, the hotel features 39 spacious rooms and suites decorated with timeless elegance. Spread over five floors, the rooms stand out—thanks to the building’s historical character—for their generous size. Each room is unique, not only in terms of furnishing but also in surface area and view. Special attention was paid during the renovation to the bathrooms, which are crafted with green marble in various finishes, enhanced with backlit onyx surfaces that elevate the sense of luxury.

The rooftop restaurant “Eridanus,” located on the 6th floor, offers spectacular views of the Acropolis, Filopappou Hill, the Observatory, Thissio, and the archaeological site of Kerameikos. From noon to evening, it serves unique Mediterranean-inspired dishes, curated by the Group’s Executive Chef, Ioannis Ntouros.

In the lobby, guests will find both indoor and outdoor lounge areas, a restaurant that serves a rich breakfast buffet with views of a vertical outdoor waterfall, and a multi-purpose hall that can host events of up to 60 people. The hotel also features a private outdoor parking and soon it will open a new spa with indoor pool.
