Athenaeum Eridanus Luxury Hotel is a 5-star boutique hotel in the heart of Athens, combining the timeless character of a preserved neoclassical building on Piraeus Avenue with a newly renovated adjacent wing. The hotel is named after the historic Eridanus River, which originated from Lycabettus Hill and flowed through ancient Athens in a southwest direction. The name also connects to ancient Greek mythology, where Eridanus was a river god, son of Oceanus and Tethys.

The original section of the Athenaeum Eridanus Hotel was built in the early 20th century and for many years belonged to the historic Strefis family. The building was renovated in 2003 and began operating as a hotel in June 2004.

The architects who led the 2003 renovation placed special emphasis on connecting the old with the new, using bold artistic touches. The original ceiling frescoes of the neoclassical building were carefully preserved piece by piece and reinstalled throughout the hotel. The hotel's decorative choices are meticulously curated, blending modern elements with subtle nods to the past. Historical references are also made through the building materials used: Pentelic marble, Greek walnut wood, and traditional “kourasani” plaster, an ancient-style finish and pigment.
